ALDER

 

Wood of good mechanical resistance and very good workability and endurance.

 

Main characteristics of the essence:

 

Origin: Rocky Mountains, Canada
Characteristics of trunks: Usually the tree doesn't exceed the height of 25 m; the diameter is normally not lower than 60 cm.
Aspect: At the moment of cutting the color is generally whitish, then it becomes light brownish with rosy or yellowish tones during the ageing.
Specific gravity: After ageing, 450 kg/m3
Mechanical features: Average resistance to axial compression: 34 N/mmq, to flexion: 70 N/mmq
