Wood of fair mechanical resistance and good resistance to cromatic alterations and to the assaults of mildew and bugs. Good endurance. Gross irregular weave and surface "open pore".

 

Main characteristics of the essence:

 

Origin: Eastern US and East Europe
Characteristics of trunks: Height even superior to 40 m and diameter of 1,50 m and over.
Aspect: Yellowish-whitish sapwood definitely different from the dark duramen, which becomes even more and more dark during the passing of time.
Specific gravity: After ageing, 780 kg/m3
Mechanical features: Average resistance to axial compression: 60 N/mmq, to flexion: 110 N/mmq
